Sony has revealed its decision to discontinue Twitter support on both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles from November 13 onwards, this means that users won’t have access to view or post on the platform anymore from their console.

Twitter will no longer be officially integrated and supported on Sony PlayStation systems, resulting in players no longer being able to share gameplay screenshots and video clips from their console natively with the PS4 / PS5 Share hashtags.

As per Sony’s notification, the integration with Twitter will cease to operate on both PS5 and PS4 consoles. Consequently, players will no longer have the option to browse or share content. This change will impact the ability to post about trophies and other in-game activities.

One of the most touted features of the PlayStation 4 was its share button, allowing seamless integration to share clips and pics on Twitter, the reason as to why Sony are axing Twitter is quite obvious.

Sony themselves are one of the largest scrouges on the face of the earth, having revised the PlayStation 5 console several times over its three year lifespan to decrease production costs and increase profit overhead. Ever since Elon Musk bought Twitter for a considerable loss he has tried just about everything under his power to monetize one of the world’s largest social media platforms to recoup his investment.

In April, Microsoft disabled the feature that allowed sharing game captures from XBOX consoles and PC to Twitter. Similarly, earlier this year in February, Blizzard removed Twitter integration from World of Warcraft.

This decision coincided with the announcement that access to the social media site’s API would no longer be free, more rather Elon is trying to pocket $42,000 USD per month from these corporations for commercial API access and integration.

And obviously, the likes of Blizzard, Microsoft and now Sony would rather not pay unnecessarily bills for social media integration, so basically this boils down to petty billionaire corporations refusing to indulge in the heinous profiteering of the world’s most notorious con artist, Elon Musk.
